Photo Project - ‘Brown Sugar and Warm Honey’

Celebrating Women’s History Month

The following content was inspired by one of the core areas of Culture; Creative Production. Creative production consists of Pro Black Art that promotes Black Culture by using art mediums such as Fashion, Language, Dance, Storytelling and Music. Culture insists that our creative production not only be technically sound but also socially purposeful and responsible. An aesthetic translation of our will and struggle for liberation and ever higher levels of life.

In the words of Maulana Karenga (an activist-scholar of national and international recognition who has had a far-reaching effect on Black intellectual and political culture. Dr.Karenga has played a vanguard role in shaping the Black Arts Movement and Culture as an essential part of Africana Studies) “Black Art must be done for all, drawn and synthesized from all and rooted in a life-based language and imagery rich in everyday relevance”.

Showcasing traditional African Fabrics with a modern twist. This project embodies women empowerment from the stylist, to the designer, to the makeup artists, to the photographer and the models. A room full of women from various cultural backgrounds came together to create images that represent US Black Women.

Culture is a treasure that is a part of our collective memory and of our perception of ourselves

Culture is something that unites people

It is a call for individuals to agree upon some common values that bind them in harmony

Culture is us, We make it, We shape it
